8th Grade Robotics
The 8th Grade Robotics class has been designed and developed is an introduction into the world of Robotics. The goal is allow the team member to experience this highly specialized field of Engineering (Mechatronics) and found out now if this something they really what they want to do or not and if it is to know they can take it again (going further) once they are in high school.
The class itself is a very hands-on class giving insight into how robots are built and controlled. In class, the team members work in teams of two to build, test and improve their operating/driving skills. Using the VEX Robotics System as a platform along with materials developed by the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute and Engineering curriculum from Intelitek the team members build a SquareBot robot. After successfully getting their robot build they start practicing and getting a feel for how their robot operates and reacts. No two robots operate or react the same. Then with lots practice learn how to control their robot through a series of basic and advanced driving challenges.
Over the course of the semester team members will have additional assignments including a pre and post test, locating information, weekly terminology test and robotic related article reviews.
There will be an emphasis placed on teamwork, creativity, problem solving and thinking throughout the course.
