Robotics I


Robotics I been designed and developed is an introduction into the world of Robotics.  The goal is allow the team member to experience this highly specialized field of Engineering (Mechatronics) and found out now if this something they really what they want to do or not.

  • Robots are devices that can move and react to sensory input. Robotics is one branch of artificial intelligence and are now widely used in factories to perform high-precision jobs such as welding and riveting. They are also used in special situations that would be dangerous for humans for example, in cleaning toxic wastes or defusing bombs.

  • Over the last decade robotics has become a very big part of the American workplace. However, the supply of qualified robotic programmers is still limited.

Using the VEX Robotics platform and multimedia based instruction developed by Intelitek team members will gain a rapid insight into how EasyC Pro allows you to quickly and simply write programs to take advantage of the full capabilities of our robots.


During the course of the semester the team members, working in teams of two, will:

  • build a BaseBot robot from which they will perform all of their activities -- driving, programming, sensors and manipulators. 

After they have build their BaseBot they will begin learning how to control it through series of driving challenges ranging from straight line to geometric shapes.  As they progress through the various activities they will move on into

  • unit 2 where, using the EasyC Pro software (similar to a C++ software language) program their robot to perform a series of task autonomously 

  • unit 4 they will begin incorporating sensors (touch, ultrasonic, button, etc ...) on their robot and into their programming

  • and then they will finish out in unit 5 where they will add and work with manipulators.


Over the course of the semester team members will have additional assignments including weekly terminology test and robotic related article reviews. 


There will be an emphasis placed on teamwork, creativity, problem solving and thinking throughout the course.
