Dual Enrollment
Dual Enrollment

Get a head start on your college career while still in high school by taking dual enrollment courses at West Georgia Technical College. WGTC dual enrollment courses provide opportunities for high school students to take college level courses while earning credits toward a high school diploma and a college credential while in high school. Students may take college level certificate courses (college technical classes earning high school elective credit) or college level academic core courses. See available courses listed below.

Requirements to Participate in Dual Enrollment

Students attending an eligible public, private, or home school program in Georgia in the 10th, 11th and 12th grade may participate in dual enrollment at West Georgia Technical College. Some programs have an age requirement (16 for dental assisting; 17 for nurse aide).

Students must complete the WGTC Dual Enrollment Application and meet the minimum HOPE GPA or placement test score required by West Georgia Technical College. Placements scores are accepted for the following standardized tests: ACT, SAT, PSAT, or Accuplacer. Accuplacer testing is available free of charge for interested dual enrollment students at West Georgia Technical College. Minimum HOPE GPA and test scores may be found on the dual enrollment section of the West Georgia Technical College website:https://www.westgatech.edu/admissions/dual-enrollment/admissions-requirements/

Before being registered for WGTC courses, students must complete the Dual Enrollment Funding application atwww.gafutures.org.

Funding for Dual Enrollment

The State of Georgia pays 100% of tuition and mandatory fees and textbooks and not charged to eligible students for the first 30 credit hours. Some fees such as program or lab fees are not covered although Coweta County will fund this portion for Coweta County School System students. After students have reached their 30-credit hour maximum of dual enrollment funding, depending on a student’s program and eligibility, students may begin utilizing HOPE Grant or Career Grant. Hours paid under dual enrollment do not count toward HOPE Scholarship cap hours. Hours paid under HOPE Grant or HOPE Career Grant do count toward HOPE Scholarship cap hours.

Do credits transfer to all colleges?

WGTC has 28 transferrable academic core courses that will transfer to any USG college in Georgia. For additional information, please see transferability information at the following link:  https://www.westgatech.edu/admissions/registrars-office/articulation-agreements/

How do dual enrollment classes affect high school GPA?

Students participating in dual enrollment receive grades that will impact their high school GPA. Dual enrollment academic courses are weighted to add 10 additional points when calculating the weighted grade; technical program courses are weighted to add 5 additional points when calculating the weighted grade. Failing or withdrawing from dual enrollment courses may impact high school graduation.

How do dual enrollment classes affect college GPAs?

All courses taken through WGTC Dual Enrollment will appear on the student’s permanent college transcript. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to continue to receive dual enrollment funding and stay in good academic standing.
